The Relevance of Geotechnical-Unit Characterization for Landslide-Susceptibility Mapping with SHALSTAB

Given the increasing occurrence of landslides worldwide, improvement predictive models for landslide mapping is needed. Despite influence geotechnical parameters on SHALSTAB model outputs, there a lack research models’ performance when considering different variables. In particular, role units (i.e., areas with common soil and lithology) understudied. Indeed, original considers that whole basin has homogeneous soil. This can lead to under-or-overestimation hazards. Therefore, in this study, we aimed investigate advantages incorporating as variable contrast model. By using locally sampled data, 13 slope-instability scenarios were simulated Jaguar creek basin, Brazil. allowed us verify sensitivity input variables assumptions. To evaluate performance, used Success Index, Error ROC curve, new index: Detective Performance Index Unstable Areas. The best was obtained scenario discretized units’ values largest sample size. Results indicate importance properly characterizing SHALSTAB. Hence, future applications should consider improve predictivity.
